One Bird Gets Ready to Fly the Coop

Sometimes milestones are obvious, and sometimes they sneak up on you

Sometimes they try to slide by unnoticed

Period Ending June 2004

I don't know if this happens to everybody else.  I think it does.  That feeling that you should have had more time.  May 29, 1987 was Lars' first birthday and the day I left to move to Virginia.  My brother Dwight helped me drive down.  We were a couple young guys and my small family was starting something new.

Now I am an old guy, my son is a young guy and he is sitting at a graduation party for his friend JJ.  Where did the time go?

The greatest chef in the world mans his new grill.  To celebrate Father's Day, Jerry got a new combination multi burner grill and deep fryer.  He got it all put together and fired up the potato Jacuzzi for his son's graduation party.

Thanks for the burgers and steaks Jerry.

John and JJ hang out at the party.  John is holding JJ's beer while I take the picture.
The beer inspired John to challenge a fellow party goer to a duel.  It was a classic battle between plastic swords and plastic nun-chuks.  Naturally, the plastic sword won in the long run.
Lars is trying to get ready before we head over to the graduation ceremony.  We went downtown Richmond to the Siegel Center.  Many of the local high schools have the ceremonies there because there is plenty of seating and convenient parking.

As you can see on the left, the center is quite full.  The organization was very good though.  The graduates were paraded around the chairs, up front and across the stage.  All the graduates and speeches took less than two hours.  We started at 7:00 pm and met our friends outside by 8:30.

But there is always a little time for relaxation.  I want to get some work done on the boat, but we need to take some time.  Time just to sit by the pond....

Time to stop and smell the flowers....

Time to spend some time with the dog....

or just time to appreciate the water, the grass and the sunshine.
There are many things that have happened to make time go fast.  There have been things that made us worry about what we were doing.  Some of them will never get posted here.

But we still have a bit of time to appreciate the small things and say a silent "Thank You" for what possessions and time we do have.  Try to remember that family and friends are what makes the time precious.  Spend it well friends, spend it well.
