Appliances, Lights, Action

Does anybody know where the carpet is?

Week Ending May 30

Lars and Dad are putting together a swing for Memorial Day.  We wanted to wait for the new house to buy anything, we just couldn't.
Cindy is looking at the appliances.  It is very exciting to see how they black appliances offset the black counter tops.  We are very excited to actually use them.  The electrician was in and there is power in the house.  When Marty turned it on in the kitchen to set the microwave clock it caused the smoke detectors to start beeping.  OOPS.

The light fixture is in the entrance hall.  It was one of the fixtures we chose to upgrade.  We think it is beautiful.

We haven't used a microwave in two months.  We are anxious to use one again once we move into the new house.  The dishwasher is a Quiet 5.  Give us a call while we do the dishes.  In theory, it won't be a problem.
ABOVE:  The hardwood floors are in.  We chose a dark finish called Gunstock.  Normally, we prefer lighter colors, but the windows and walls provide plenty of light to keep it from being over-powering.

In the last week, the fixtures have been put in the tubs, showers and sinks.  The green protective film has been removed.  Let's hope there are no more construction tasks taking place in our tub.

BELOW: The door surround has finally been installed.  Cindy is day dreaming.

You can see the back yard about as landscaped as it will be for a while.  The fine grading has been done and grass seed has been scattered under the straw.  To put a rumor to rest, they did bring in top soil.  We may bring in a little more depending on the amount of rainfall over the next two weeks before we close.  If it rains and the grass germinates, we may wait until the fall.

The hardwood floors look nice in the dining room.  There is still some touch up needed because an outlet is in the way of the trim.

The house FINALLY has shutters.  The driveway gravel has been laid.  The day before the yard had a big trench from the porch to the street.  They attached the sewer line.  Now that the yard is complete all we are waiting for is the carpet inside and the driveway outside.  Other than the walkthrough and fixing some details, it is all done.  (Oh yeah, the structured wiring folks have to tell us which outlets will be the phone and which are the network.)

Lars turned 16.  He is laughing at a funny card Kate got him.  We could not be more proud of our son.
